You will hopefully be aware that the Transport and Works Act Order (TWAO) has been approved by the Secretary of State which means we now have the permissions to construct the Bridgwater Tidal Barrier scheme. This includes improvements to the earth defence banks and floodwall alongside the River Parrett in Pawlett as well as the construction of a new flood bank.
In preparation for these main construction works our contractors, Kier, will now carry out further ground and archaeology investigations. These will provide design information on the clay materials available to construct the new flood banks, and the strength of the underlying geology.
Investigations are planned to start the week commencing 4 April and continue through until the end of May. Kier will need to deliver machinery and welfare units to site using low loader vehicles and an excavator at the beginning and end of the works. Access will be via the A38, down Main Road, Gaunts Road and into River Road. During the course of the works there will also be smaller pieces of equipment moving in and out of the area on trailers on the back of 4×4 vehicles or tractors, as well as some staff vehicles. Kier will manage the traffic carefully to minimise disruption to the community and they will avoid busy times wherever possible.
We wanted to outline the proposals above and appreciate that this could potentially cause some disturbance.
